'Faggot' can mean homosexual people as well as a bundle of sticks because they used to tie homosexuals to a bundle of sticks and burn them. Hence why I find it an offensive word.

I'm not saying it's bad to find it offensive! You missunderstand. I don't like it, either. I'm just saying it's silly to only find it offensive by a certain group of people.

By the way, that's terrible! I had no idea that's where the term came from. D: Interesting to know, though, I must say.

Where are you getting that information? It's different than what's posted on Etymology Online (http://www.etymonline.com/index.php?search=faggot&searchmode=none):

1279, "bundle of twigs bound up," from O.Fr. fagot "bundle of sticks," from It. faggotto, dim. of V.L. *facus, from L. fascis "bundle of wood" (see fasces). Esp. used for burning heretics (a sense attested from 1555), so that phrase fire and faggot was used to mean "punishment of a heretic." Heretics who recanted were required to wear an embroidered figure of a faggot on their sleeve, as an emblem and reminder of what they deserved.

So according to this website, at least, it seems like "faggot" when referring to gay people most likely derived from the fact that ALL heretics (not just gay people) were tied to faggots and burned. So the "bundle of sticks" definition came first. It sounds like you are implying that the bundle of sticks got the name of faggot because gay people were tied to them (guess it's a "what came first, the chicken or the egg" type question), and that's not the case.

Plus, just because a word might have had a negative history/beginning, does not mean that the word should be considered offensive in today's speech. Language evolves. The word "left" originated as something very negative. Obviously it no longer retains that connotation. Whether "faggot" (when meaning a bundle of sticks, not used as a perjorative for gay people) qualifies is arguable, but I don't buy its supposed origin as a compelling argument.
