I guess I already read those nuances in what the OP was saying. Should a gay person be able to use "faggot" indiscriminately just because they are gay? No. However, what I thought the person was saying -- and I may be wrong -- was that the use of the word in the gay community is different than the use of the word outside that community. Which I entirely agree with. One gay person affectionately or jokingly calling another gay person a "fag" is very different than a bunch of straight people calling each other, affectionately or not, the same term.

And again, why the whining about being criticized for using a word? Some religions only allow their members to take communion; some tribal groups and societies only allow their stories and rituals to be told to and partaken of by their members; some families are o.k. with criticizing and insulting each other, but won't put up with it from others. Quite frankly, only middle-class, straight white people think that everything should be about them, and that they should have access to and full use of everything around them. That's not equality or fairness -- that's just the assumption of privilege.
