(the 2007 adaptation of Jane Austen's Mansfield Park)

Aw, but she's so cute. And soft looking.

It's been a while since I saw this movie and I admit I haven't read the book. But, if you are basing her "feistiness" off the Doctor Who character, that's not what was in the movie. She was pretty quiet in the movie IIRC.

She closer to the book character than the 90s version, but it's not a good adaptation in general. The only reason to watch it is Hayley Atwell's boobs.

That's more like late 90s going-to-the-mall hair to me.

Ain't nearly enough volume (or crimping, or perming) to be an 80's hairdo...

I keep meaning to watch this BECAUSE the character's that way. I loathed Fanny Price so much that I rarely re-read Mansfield Park. I just wanted her to do something, ANYTHING, in life but be a limp noodle.

But if you're a fan of the book as is, I would see where this would be way irritating.

Haha, this is why Mansfield Park is my least favourite Jane Austen book.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-06 12:08 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a good adaptation, my favourite, and she's far more developed than in the book.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-02 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, I've avoided all adaptations of Manfield Park because I didn't like the book. Fanny is my least favorite of the Austen heroines and her passivity is the main reason.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-03 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. Fanny is a tough cookie and judgmental with it. Feisty, shrieky, smouldering and blowsy she is not. The 1983 BBC series is the only adaptation worth watching.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-03 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed!

You might be surprised. I found her character pretty true to the book in this version. It's the 1999 one (I think) that was a bit of a detour with some added politics.

Her hair and dress I thought were always supposed to be plainer than her cousins to show a comparison between how they live in the household. She's not thought of as a grown woman in the first part of the book and having her hair in a younger styler could reflect that?

that’s late 90s/early 2000s hair if I ever saw it

(Anonymous) 2017-11-03 01:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I cannot stand Billie Piper. It's not even Dr Who's fault, she grated on me like nails on a chalkboard when she was a pop star too. So, yeah, I'm totally with you. This is the only BBC Austen adaption I've never watched.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-09 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
Your lose. It's actually a pretty good adaptation.
