(Anonymous) 2017-11-04 02:44 am (UTC)(link)Sportswear has 20% high concept. 60% median range for average consumer. And 20% basics such as a tailored jacket or a 5 pocket jean. They are all still fashion.
The stuff on Project Runway should be the top 20% high concept pieces, the things that "early adopters" would wear. The idea of the runway is a "show" and that it's "Editorial." (That's why I hated this week's "Winter Editorial High Concept Look" Brief. Yay? You gave them a season. Tad more specific PLEASE.) Kenya's look is something that an early adopter would wear, not the average person. It was a high concept look. (Margarita on the other hand...)
Having been watching older seasons of PR (ironically while working on my own fashion design portfolio/brand) the earlier seasons the judges were much more embracing of Fashion Design that wasn't just "New York" or "European" style. Now, if someone like Margarita shows a "Miami" style design, she gets mocked. They never mocked Uli. It's sad and frustrating. Because Miami style is just as valid as NYC style.
