Re: Stranger Things Discussion!

I liked it a lot. I didn't love it intensely, the way I did S1, but it was still really good, imo.

Mainly, I appreciate that the writers seem to know and understand their characters, and to genuinely care about them and want to keep them consistent and give them coherent emotional arcs. That kind of sensitive, character-focused writing means a lot to me.

I think the biggest issue with S2 was the way the story lines were so fractured until the end of the season. I think part of what made S1 so unusually excellent is the way each of the three main character groups (kids, teens, adults) were essentially working together towards the same basic end, so that you could really feel the season taking shape from quite early on, and it all felt very cohesive and connected and like each story line was ultimately pulling together not apart. Whereas with S2, the storylines often felt like they were pulling apart, which limited the amount of narrative and emotional momentum the season could build up.
