I know what you mean. In promo stuff, the actor is so good natured and adorable that I barely recognized him in the movie where his personality and demeanor is completely different. But I'm not so sure it's really a "Sexy Mexican" trope (uh... is that a trope?) as it is a case of Manuel Garcia-Rulfo being good looking, period.

tvtropes has the "Latin Lover" trope, although "Mexicans are usually not considered exotic enough for Americans, but they can also fall under the trope if handsome and smooth-talking enough". Relatedly, there are also the "Dashing Hispanic" and "Spicy Latina" tropes.

But actor personalities don't matter when writing fanfic for their character. Sometimes those lines blur in fandom but not usually. Otherwise, there would be a lot more fluffy Joffrey GOT fic! I have not seen the movie recently (and I only watched it once) but I remember Vasquez being one of the more serious characters. Faraday was really the only comedic one actually.

I didn't realize 'Sexy Mexican' was a trope (or are talking like... ~Latin Lover~ type tropes?

But his character is definitely not 'goofy' and 'cute', and regardless of how he looks in BTS shots or in real life, fic is going to be written about his bad-assery/serious characterization in the movie.

I have the same thoughts about Tyler Hoechlin. He did the broody silent thing as Derek, but he is so smiley outside of that. Goofy happy. Look at that face.

I totally read this as "shapeshifting" and "magician", and was really excited for a version of the Magnificent Seven that totally does not exist.
