[Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End]

Chow Yun Fat did deserve better.

They should give him his own Hollywood big budget pirate movie.

Yeah it was bad. Whenever people talk about wanting Elizabeth back in the franchise because her character was the badass pirate lord it kinda enrages me. Shit was nonsense.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-04 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
TBH, I never liked Elizabeth Swann in the first place so the whole Pirate King thing was the woooooorst in my view.

I dont really care about PoC representation as get enough exposure with asian dramas and telenovellas, however I didn't like this movie becuse I just couldn't believe in a competent admiral Elizabeth.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-04 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Me neither. She doesn't strike me as a particularly competent anything and the idea of her as a chosen leader over a bunch of more experienced, very dangerous people is absurd. I don't like plots where we're asked to believe in the heroine's ability to perform great feats with zero skills to back it up.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-04 10:54 pm (UTC)(link)
ikr, she has no experience.

In the first movie piracy was kinda bad. After that... Poor Norrington.

I feel like the only one who thought Elizabeth could do this. The girl grew up eating, sleeping and breathing pirates, and was looking into it even more after the first movie. I feel like if she was a guy, literally no one would be questioning her ~ability to lead~. Like shit, y'all believe Will can do this but not the girl who's been fascinated by pirates since she was a little kid?

(Anonymous) 2017-11-04 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think Will has many fans among those who hate Elizabeth for being a Mary Sue.

1) Wait, you seriously think reading stories about pirates and pretending to be a pirate as a kid is adequate preparation for being the Pirate King? Then somebody alert NASA and tell them that I spent a lot of time sitting in a cardboard box in my back yard saying "Houston, we have a problem" and I'm ready to be an astronaut now.

2) Who's "y'all"? Literally nobody in this thread has claimed Will Turner would be a more believable Pirate King.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-05 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
1. Not just that, but she had such an interest that I legitimately don't doubt she looked up a lot about ships and sailing to boot. She certainly didn't seem lost around a ship in the first movie. It's not that hard with a little bit of thinking beyond "is girl, must not know things and only think of romance and dresses."

2. Just a general "WAAAH ELIZABETH IS SO AWFUL WAAAH"

(Anonymous) 2017-11-05 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
I'm with you, anon, I actually really liked the whole thing. I wished she'd stayed as the Pirate King.

/in a weird corner of loving Elizabeth and not liking Will very much

(Anonymous) 2017-11-05 06:59 am (UTC)(link)
Nobody gives a shit about Will. Even when I still cared about this franchise, I wanted neither of them to come back.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-05 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Really at this point I was just watching for Norrington anyway.
