I'm just busy still missing Kara/James.

Right there with you, I thought they worked so well together and was so, so bummed when it was tossed away(after a season of build up to boot!).

So glad I'm not a part of this fandom, so I can ship Kara & Mon-El without a care in the world!

(Anonymous) 2017-11-04 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Okay. I just need to get this off my chest.

And I *understand* that fiction tends to telescope or elide some real world issues in the name of getting a plot-line done inside the timeframe. Things get shortened, or skipped over, or are implied to happen off-screen.

But goddamit.

That boy is a refugee. He hasn't been in the country for a year, it's a culture shock even going from one Western, English-speaking country to another, he has no resources of his own, and Kara is a massively important part of what little support network he has.

a) Of course he couldn't just walk into an internship at her company. What possible way is he going to pick up the myriad of little skills and the background necessary to do that? She wants to be condescending about him getting a job as a bartender? He didn't have a family take him in as a child and put him through years of schooling first, thanks.

b) There is a huuuuuuge imbalance of power in their relationship and she shouldn't be tapping that at all. Since she is, some awareness - any at all - of what it might mean for her SO if this relationship goes south, that would have been great. As it is, she reads to me as massively irresponsible.

**

Yes, yes, I'm thinking of the pretty white boy as a woobie. And gender-reversed depictions of this also turn up a lot in other media.

And he's not a pure flawless muffin - irresponsible and tone-deaf relationship-wise etc. etc.

But those are my reasons for finding the relationship unhealthy.

SA: I'll add that finding a relationship 'problematic' isn't the same as not wanting it written about. 'Problematic' in fiction is a great way to unpack tricky things in rl.

But - I genuinely find that relationship problematic.

The Supergirl fandom has pretty much turned completely anti. I honestly feel bad for the cast because they are constantly getting hate (except for probably Katie McGrath).

The show is a completely different show from what it was in season 1, though. So I get it. I still like it even if I dislike a lot more of it. But I get why people would go totally anti.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-05 02:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, the point where I lost any potential interest in Supercorp was when the shippers were insisting that Katie McGrath was the reason for Melissa Benoist's divorce. Just...the disrespect for the privacy of everyone involved... I just.

It gave me flashbacks to Johnlock and Merthur shippers. *shudders*

(Anonymous) 2017-11-05 08:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously? Wow. So what, Melissa Benoist and Chris Wood are just faking being in a relationship? Lol. Shades of the J2 tinhatters.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-05 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
I don't really care much for the pairing myself, but I am so sick of the unending relentless hate toward it that I kind of hope they end up being endgame, just out of spite. That and all the sneering toward Karamel shippers. "The only people that ship this are 10-year old girls." Yes I have actually seen this. And I'm just really really sick of it.

Personally none of the ships on Supergirl appeal to me personally, not Karamel, not Karolsen, not SuperCorp, not Sanvers. But that's just a thing with me and these shows - none of their ships really appeal to me.

^ Yes! Cosigned, sealed, delivered. Though I would make an exception if Winn/James became a thing. Ditto Cat/ President Wonder Woman.

But seriously what is great (or could be great if the CW would let it) about the show is the importance of platonic relationships. The Danvers sisters' dynamic, J'onn being everyone's space dad, the team being a found family of sorts.

Honestly, I just want Kara to be single if not for ever, at least for awhile (a LONG while), partly because I think the show works better that way, and partly because the fandom has become so toxic that I don't want either side of the ship war to prevail.

Amen!

I feel the same way and I have only ever watched a handful of episodes. But after seeing the mindless hate disguising itself as social justice, I'm rooting for Karamel to be endgame. Because I'm spiteful like that, and the shippers deserve all the happiness after all that crap they've been getting.

AYRT

Glad I'm not the only one. :)

(Anonymous) 2017-11-05 12:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I also don't ship anyone on Supergirl. Frankly, I don't think there's much chemistry between most of the actors.

''"But that's just a thing with me and these shows - none of their ships really appeal to me."''

I'll take this a step further. None of the canon ships on any of the Arrowverse shows appeal to me. Olicity ruins the overall tone of the show. WestAllen makes no real sense with no real development. Karamel is toxic and unhealthy...

None of these appeal to me.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-05 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
AYRT

Eh. I support Olicity because it's better than Lauriver (which I loathed). I never really thought it messed with the tone of the show; it just doesn't really do anything for me personally. It doesn't "give me the feels", I suppose some would say.

With WestAllen, I just simply don't care one way or the other. But I stopped watching Flash when they did the Flashpoint mess, so *shrug*.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-05 09:18 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

I hate Olicity, but that's mostly because I *loath* Oliver Queen. Generally he's a massive dick.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-05 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Haaated the pilot, never watched beyond it, but I'll ship your ship OP, just for its cute name and adorable faces.

I just wanted to say that your ship has the best damned shipname I've seen in a while XD

(Anonymous) 2017-11-07 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
There's no need to fake it, anon. There's tons of karamel shippers to hang with.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-09 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
Mon-El is fucking burning trash. He ruined the show and Kara as a character. You have shitty taste.
