Re: Mass shooting in a Texas church
(Anonymous) 2017-11-06 01:15 am (UTC)(link)Sad but true, but damnit, I don't want to get to that defeatist mindset. I think continuing to think that way will just allow the NRA and the "RAH RAH SECOND AMENDMENT!" crowd to continue to control the narrative. There needs to be a hard pushback of some sort, not just by politicians, but by the public as well. I don't know how we can make that happen, but it needs to happen. I don't want to just give up and say, "Well, there's nothing we'll be able to do to stop this."
At this point, I would honestly applaud a Democratic candidate coming out and saying, "You know what, you're right. We are going to take guns away. At the very least, we're going to put a whole mess of restrictions on them. You guys have obviously proven you clearly can't be trusted with them, and we're beyond tired of having to deal with this nightmare scenario every few months, so we're going to do x, y, z to deal with this, and if you don't like it, tough."
Sure, that statement would get people very angry, but hey, Trump was able to run on, and win by holding, positions that fly in the face of aspects of the Constitution that people claim they care so much about, so...
I just....there has to be a change. There needs to be. We cannot keep going like this.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-06 03:34 am (UTC)(link)No, yeah, I totally understand that feeling. Was mainly just venting about the despair and how sad it is that we've gotten to that point.
I think if we could AT LEAST get the goddamn NRA to shut the hell up and get out of the way that would be a start on making some kind of movement, but I have no idea how feasible that would be.
