What type of crossover are we talking about? Are we talking about fusions, where the characters from Text A are dropped into the circumstances of the characters from Text B? Like, uh...John and Sherlock are playing the parts, very roughly, of Harry and Hermione?

Or are we talking about more general crossovers where one or more characters from Text A show up in Text B, and exist along side the characters from Text B? Like, Charlie Weasley is John Watson's friend from Hogwarts?

I love fusions but I think they're harder to do well. OTOH, I tend to find simple crossovers jarring, but they seem easier to pull off.

Ok. Who's Harry and who's Hermione in that scenario?

It's a theoretical fic, not one I've come across, but personally, I would only be interested in reading it if John was The Boy Who Lived and Sherlock was the approximate Hermione stand-in - aka the smartest wizard in his year and John's best friend.

I'm completely disinterested in a Sherlock-as-Harry fic. Sherlock is the stronger personality of the two, and he's already special in that he's a mad genius. So imo the very last thing he needs is to also be the super-famous savior of the wizarding world. That would just make the entire dynamic feel very unbalanced to me, and excessive Sherlock Worship is very much not my jam. YMMV though, and I can respect that.

Also, for the record, I love Hermione and would never, ever want to replace her with someone like Sherlock. But in a fusion, where there is no Hermione, then I would be totally down for Hermione!Sherlock, eminently capable wizard, just as smart as Hermione, but with a fraction the self-preservation instinct and thirty times the bitchiness.

Shit, now I really want this.
