I cannot, for the life of me, get into One Piece. At all. I've watched the anime AND read the manga. It just doesn't appeal to me. I tried watching it again at her insistence but it still just doesn't grab me. She knows this, but will still bring up the fact that I should try to get into it. I love her to death, but man I wish she'd just stop.

Also: It's just a phrase. I'm not *actually* going to punch her.

I NEVER EVER was able to get into One Piece either. I know it's a good anime/manga, but something about it turns me off and I just CAN NOT take the characters srsly for some resone =_=

Sounds to me like you gave it a really good shot and it just doesn't hit you right. No law saying you have to like it just because she wants you to. If she keeps bringing it up, just tell her you gave it your best shot but it just isn't happening, and her pestering you about it is only going to wind up making you resent it even more. You respected her enough to try it, and now she needs to respect you enough to back off and let you be.

I'm sure you already know this, but I feel I have to represent the sane part of the fandom that accepts that not everyone likes it. =P

I feel the need to defend myself here.

First, I would like to say that I'd like to consider myself fairly sane--but I'm not a mind reader. His claiming that I "knew" he didn't like it was clouded by the fact that, for someone who wasn't at all interested by One Piece, he pretty much jumped at the idea of us cosplaying Nami and Luffy together, and even asked from time to time about us watching one of the movies (something I had suggested).

He has told me now that he was only doing it because he wanted me to be happy, and I respect him enough to respect that, and I have been laying off of him. However, he has never--ever--told me that me bringing up this series infuriated him to this point, not until I saw this secret. Instead, he decided to bring it into a public community for others to see, instead of telling me outright. I should also mention that despite the fact I hate alot of his fandoms, I make a very valiant effort to get into them anyway, and support his fandoms regardless--despite the fact that everything I like seems to be utter crap to him.

Talk about respect, hm?

In any case, he and I have already talked about this, and I've dropped the idea of him ever getting into it entirely.

Simply a matter of confusion and miscommunication.

Ahhh, that makes sense. Suppose that's what I get for commenting with only one side of the story. Sorry about that. And you know, I'm irritated he resorted to posting in here instead of just telling you, and I don't even know him. What a crappy way to find out-- not that it's any of my business.

Sorry again for jumping to conclusions. I'm so used to running into the crazy rabid fans, I don't look too closely when someone else seems to be the same, even if I'm getting the information second-hand.

Naw, don't worry about it. And, he's really not as bad as everyone is making him out to be--this was dumb of him, but we joke around like this all the time. While it did hurt my feelings that he wouldn't tell me first, I DID laugh at it (especially cause it was so obvious he'd done it XD).

He's since apologized, and still wants to cosplay Luffy with me, which I think is sweet.
