102. So much word. SO MUCH. ): The Pokemon world will always be my dream, man, and I don't think the disappointment that nothing like this is real will ever fully go away.

108. I don't see any problem with self-insert stories, as long as the writer knows exactly what they are, and that they aren't going to be loved by other people. It's the ones that post them up online and preen all over them that annoy people, I think- if you're just doing it for your own fun, I don't see why there should be any problem. ♥

114. Because it's cute and fluffy and sweet and hopeful. Which is awesome. :> ALSO YOU WIN FOR BEATLES REFERENCE.

116. You're free not to see it, I'm just not sure how you don't. XD If you're into Clamp, you do realize how their relationships go, right? I'm not one to call canon, but I think KuroFay is as canon as most of Clamp's side-ships get- hell, as most of Clamps ships get. Certainly almost as much so as Touya/Yukito, and those two are undeniably canon. Clamp just has an odd way of handling canon relationships (one which I personally love, the idea of a romance that can clearly state that it's romance without loud declarations of love and a kiss at the end ♥).

120. ... uh-huh. You've seen one episode and heard one line, and automatically know what it's all about? Bull.

Kamina says that line to Simon when his adoptive little brother is FREAKING OUT. Can't do what he needs to do level freaking out. Can't, at that moment, do it just because he has to, and keeps saying that he can't do it- he DOESN'T BELIEVE IN HIMSELF. So Kamina says- okay then. Believe in me. And I believe in you. SO DO IT. It's what Simon needs at that point, and it gets them through an emergency situation much more quickly than trying to convince him "NO SIMON YOU'RE AMAZING JUST BELIEVE IN YOURSELF" would have done. They didn't have time for that.

That wasn't his most inspirational line. That was his catchiest. (That's also one of his funniest, to me- just because it is so borderline-nonsensical.) Before he dies, do you know what he says to Simon?

"Don't believe in me. Don't believe in the me who believes in you. Don't believe in the you who believes in me. Believe in yourself."

Maybe that's the "real inspiration" you're looking for. And you know what? Sometimes, leaning on someone, having someone tell you, "I'm here for you, and I know you can do this," is a good damn thing. No man is an island etcetera.

So check your facts before you get all bent out of shape over something. It'll save your blood pressure more than taking taking a cartoon, much less a cartoon you've never even seen, as a Big Damn Deal, believe me.

122. God, this is either a troll or someone who hasn't paid attention to the amount of secrets stating this EXACT THING before. If you think shipping is stupid, what do you think if someone is writing an original story? Should they keep pairings out of it entirely, because that's implying that people need to be "paired up"? No? Do you think people might just enjoy things like that, seeing people connect, maybe get some happy feelings from seeing people interacting and growing closer like that? Yes?

Guess what? Same for fandom. So if you don't want to ship, fine, don't. It's not your idea of a fun time, and you're in the fandom for fun. But don't get all holier-than-thou at people who do ship just because they're enjoying fandom in a different way than you. It just makes you look like a jerk who can't handle that other people have a different opinion.

If you're just annoyed because people "don't understand" why you don't ship and try to push their opinion onto you, then I'm sorry, that's crappy of them. You don't have to ship if you don't want to, just enjoy yourself. But don't judge other people for it; that's all we ask.

124. But could you put it on a resume? =X

Wow, way to skim. See, let me direct-quote here:

So if you don't want to ship, fine, don't. It's not your idea of a fun time, and you're in the fandom for fun.

If you're just annoyed because people "don't understand" why you don't ship and try to push their opinion onto you, then I'm sorry, that's crappy of them. You don't have to ship if you don't want to, just enjoy yourself. But don't judge other people for it; that's all we ask.

I THINK YOU MISSED MY POINT A LITTLE. If this secret is in fact about the fact that people are getting on the OP's case about not shipping, that is shitty of those people. And I feel bad for the OP if that's the case, because s/he doesn't deserve that. S/he is FINE enjoying the fandom without shipping.

I was a bit snappy, yes. But I am way too used to the run of secrets going "OMG WHY DO YOU PEOPLE SHIP CAN'T YOU SEE ANYONE AS JUST FRIEEEENDS?" About half of that rant was working under the impression that the OP was implying that there's something wrong with shipping. If they're not, then I believe I made it clear that I don't have a problem with them. I know people who don't ship, and I don't care, because we're all in it to have fun- why should they do something that isn't fun for them, then? They do what makes them happy, I do what makes me happy, and as long as they're not over there going "HOW CAN YOU SHIP A/B THAT'S DUMB" it's just fine.

122 OP (different anon)

(Anonymous) 2008-06-24 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
O_O I just don't see the point of shipping.

And people are over defensive and very sensitive about it: I.E. and as long as they're not over there going "HOW CAN YOU SHIP A/B THAT'S DUMB" it's just fine.

Then that's fine, really, and I am sorry if people give you a hard time about it. I don't know why you quoted that part, since really I think that's just being decent- I don't want to be hassled about liking what I like, and I'm sorry I jumped on you. I've seen too much on here that literally attacks shipping, instead of just... not seeing the point, and I'm a little tired about being told what I should and shouldn't do in fandom when I'm only in it for fun. Same goes for you, really- if we're having fun and not hurting anybody, not encroaching on anybody else's fun, it's just fine, and no one has a right to say otherwise. I thought your secret might have been about something it's not, so feel free to ignore my rant; it doesn't really apply to you. ;;

A lot of people think football is stupid, or collecting coke cans is stupid, or doll making is stupid--that doesn't mean they think the people who like those things are stupid. O_O;

If it's truly just for fun, and it doesn't mean anything, and it is nothing but play time. (It's nothing but public daydreaming, most of it will ever be canon.) Why get so offended? Lots of people like to do things that other human beings classify as stupid. Why should that even matter? I just don't get why so many shippers get up and arms and completely frothy over it.

Re: 122 OP (different anon)

I think we're having an argument when we actually agree with each other here. o_o;; (Though I will admit! I try not to call anything "stupid" when I know other people like it- I might not get the appeal, so it's "stupid" to me, but when you say that something is stupid it IS kind of implying that whoever likes it shouldn't, that their opinion is faulty, etc. I don't see the point in coin collecting, but I wouldn't call it stupid, just because I lot of people do enjoy it, so it's hardly stupid to them.)

I think it's weird for people to get up in arms if someone else likes something they don't, or doesn't like something they do, as I've said. And it really all depends on how it's being phrased. If someone is standing there fangirling about Naruto and I say, "I think that show's pretty stupid," I can see them getting a little >: about it- because I can't imagine anyone wants to be told that something they really enjoy is "stupid." But if I was going "oh, god, that series, it's SO STUPID, how can you like it?"- that's patronizing and implying that the person is in some way faulty or stupid for liking it.

That's why I responded the way I did, really- I'm too used to people over the Internet, especially Anonymous, pulling the latter rather than the former. Since you've told me you weren't attacking, simply stating that you personally don't like shipping, I don't have any problem with you, and I hope you have fun doing what you do enjoy.
