I don't understand this ship at all either.

I don't have anything against it, ship away, I just find it hard to believe. They're attractive characters, but nothing about them has ever made me think 'ah yes, sex or romance would happen here, between them.'

Considering they've never met each other (or know of each other's existence) in canon, I am going with some pair the spares syndrome.

That too. But I meant also personality wise I just don't see it even if they did meet or if it were AU.

i like mccree/hanzo but at least personally i've always been a fan of that sort of relationship archetype that most of the fandom has for the pairing, the closed off introvert with the more extroverted charmer, cold (blue) and warm (red) etc etc. also the whole they both did Bad Stuff in their past thing i'm always a sucker for that.

regardless mccree and genji have a history and frankly idg why it's not way more popular either

I like it in a very low-key way but I do wonder why it's as big as it is, as far as I know they haven't interacted once in the canon(but then that's really not something that's a hindrance to fandom when it comes to shipping :P).

I don't begrudge it's existence though but I also only poke about in the fandom occasionally so I don't see it everywhere or what have you.

Blaming another ship for your ship not being as popular is really petty, gross and entitled tbh

(Anonymous) 2017-11-10 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Lol. Sorry your ship was insulted.

Your ship sucks, sry2say.

Two attractive dudes attract shipping like sugar and ants. From the beginning of the game when there were only a few characters, they're the only two guys within the same age-range that could be considered 'human' and 'attractive'.

Meanwhile, I notice that McGenji started to really take off after Uprising, when McHanzo already had a strong grip on the fanbase, that despite the canon basis for McGenji, it can't really shake the McHanzo out of the spotlight. I don't really invest on either ship (I'm much more of platonic McReyes and Hanzo is an asshole), but they're usually featured as the minor pairing in Reyes/Morrison fics so I can't help but to start liking it too.

That’s an interesting assumption.

Because if it were Teen Wolf and Derek/Stiles vs. Scott/Stiles and Derek/Stiles went away for some reason, I doubt Scott/Stiles would get more popular, though it is possible. I think there are three more likely scenarios: Peter/Stiles gets more popular, a lot of people just leave the fandom, or some other unrelated pairing, like Liam/Theo, gets more popular.

I do ship it, though I've never played the game and my knowledge of the lore is shaky at best. But I think it is the archetypes thing, the whole opposites attract, but I think it's also that there's so much potential for exploration. They haven't interacted in the game, which leaves their first meeting open for authors to explore, and then build upon. Was their first meeting awful? Genial? What happens next?

Plus, yeah, they're both hot.

McGenji is trash too though.

Genyatta > all.

Preach!

(Anonymous) 2017-11-10 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
Eh. I shipped it for a while, even tho canon wise there's literally NOTHING. I think that considering their attitude, past, etc there could be a fun chemistry and it's fun to play on that. Also they hot, which doesn't hurt.

But I have to admit that the juggernaut size this ship has reached put me off of it. Also too many of it's shippers being absolute cunts to my smaller PPPROBBLEMATIC ship while claiming absolute moral superiority and purity with their mchanzo has REALLY put me off of it.

Basically I half agree. I don't think that the size of the ship really hurts McGenji tho. Idk.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-11 06:54 am (UTC)(link)
Hate to break it to you fam, but McGenji had about as much basis as McHanzo when this game came out (ie none) and Genji still has much stronger relationships with characters like Mercy and Zenyatta, so.
