You know, end of the day, Shakespeare thought Bohemia had a coastline. If the story is good enough, it doesn't matter.

Eh, I guess. But considering that today you can Google stuff or look on Wikipedia for a crazy amount of information, it's not really on the same level as Shakespeare not knowing the boundaries of Bohemia. If a writer is too lazy or ignorant to look up basic stuff, it's not likely their writing is going to be that good,either.

What are the odds the story is going to be that good, though? Especially if the author doesn't even want to do basic research for the setting they chose?
