I'm always impressed by fics with historical settings that really take the political and social climate of the setting into account and maybe delve into some issues of the time period and bring in some lesser known history. I'm impressed because that kind of thing takes a lot more effort to research in order to pull off well compared just looking up what people wore and what the technology was like.
