(Anonymous) 2017-11-11 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)Raw oysters are SUPPOSED to taste like the sea, but imo they have a very strong, unpleasant fishy taste. Even fried oysters taste bad to me. Then there's the texture issue: they're like big, slimy, fishy boogers. Scallops, however, actually taste the way the above anon describes, like a breath of fresh air on a clean beach, with a hint of sweetness. They are mild and have a soft texture as well, not rubbery or slimy. Mussels can be tricky. They can have a strong fishy flavor too, depending on their age or where they come from, and I don't always want them, but good mussels are stronger in taste than scallops, mildly fishy and have a slight chewy texture. A bowl of good mussels in a white wine and garlic broth with crostini is the best!
