Re: People of the US not from Alabama...

Alabama Republican senatorial candidate Roy Moore is in hot water for what is apparently a long and well-attested history of hitting on teenage girls. Despite this, he still has the support of Alabama Republicans, who are defending his conduct. He appears to still be competitive in the race, and I think most observers would probably consider him the favorite to win it.

He also is just an enormous piece of shit in many other ways, this is just the most recent one.

One supporter's rationalization.

"Take the Bible: Zachariah and Elizabeth for instance," Zeigler said. "Zachariah was extremely old to marry Elizabeth and they became the parents of John the Baptist. Also take Joseph and Mary. Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter. They became parents of Jesus. There's just nothing immoral or illegal here. Maybe just a little bit unusual."

Really not an uncommon attitude within particular veins of American Christianity.

We have a ton of child brides in this country, not just in Alabama, and they're almost all in conservative and/or evangelical Christian communities.

They conveniently overlook the fact that Roy Moore didn't marry those girls, he fornicated with them. But you know, typical Xtian garbage follows same.

It not like they're going to get caught and get life sentences. Man, why some people like going after 'weird' stuff?

I looked at his wife's FB for a minute - asshat 'supporters' going on about how 'liberals' need to make him look 'like the worst' in order to win, and 'we support Moore all the way!!'

Sick fucks.

Except the whole point of Jesus is that he's not supposed to be the product of Mary and Joseph having sex? You want to marry a single, pregnant teen and support her and raise the baby, fine, but no one's accused Moore of doing that!
