That was the first thing I did, so that's not the problem. I have a spare keyboard, but I don't really have the desk space to hook it up to my laptop. Gonna try the Google thing again and see if I can't find a solution that won't eat into the $15 I have left to my name.

Well, you can actually set up a keyboard shortcut and have that be the z instead of doing the copy/paste thing. Or you can remap your keyboard with something like this https://www.pcmag.com/news/353425/how-to-customize-your-computer-keyboard.
