An open letter to all AO3 users.

Please, for the love of all that is holy, tag your goddamn futanari fic properly. I do not want surprise!penis in my femslash.

Actually, this applies to ALL weird kinks. If you refuse to tag that shit you're making the site more annoying for both people who want to avoid your weird kinky fic AND for people who do actually want to read it. Tags are supposed to act as both warning and advertisement, and under-using the site's tagging system is just as bad as over-using it. You are just as bad as the people who tag fifty pairings and a couple hundred characters.

I agree in the strongest possible terms. And the most annoying part of it is that there are like a million different tags that people use for it - girl!penis, futanari, futa, girlpenis, girl penis, magic cock, magic!cock, G!P, gp are all things I've seen and it's really annoying to filter for all of them.

I don't even use AO3's filtering system, lol. I use this thing called AO3rdr that has a blacklisting function that works a lot like xkit on tumblr. But it only works when people bother to tag their shit.

I agree, and I like futanari (though I wish it showed up more in het and not just femslash). Tag kinks, people.

This. I like futa and cuntboy, I want to find it, others want to blacklist it, this works out well for everyone.

If your fic is so damn pathetic that ruining the 'surprise' will ruin it, don't even bother posting it.

What I do is list "extra tags" right up at the top of relevant chapters if it's not something that happens an appreciable number of times in the fic. Tagging the entire fic with something that happens only in one chapter out of 100+ is false advertising to me. But I also don't want to upset people, either. No complaints thus far. *keeps fingers crossed*
