Dump your friend, Anon. It's not worth the headache. I've been friends with shipper of all degrees, from super casual to the ones that wrote whole NanoWriMo for their ship, but never actual tinhats, because they're creepy and cannot be reasoned with.

A slow fade seems like a good idea to me. But then I think that nobody needs a "good enough" reason to break up with a friend. If you don't want to be friends, then don't!

I would never be friends with someone seriously into RPF, so I don't blame you lol

Your friend seems to be 10 years late to the party.

ikr? 10 years ago at least they shared an apartment or something and didn't have spouses and multiple children. to seriously tinhat these guys now would require a massive disconnect from reality.

Search for spn-gossip. They're still at it.

Why did I look?!?!

(Anonymous) 2017-11-18 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Because fandom induced mass delusion is fascinating. You can write a whole case study on this and have it published in an academic journal on psychology.

I wonder what it is about J2 that make the shippers so crazy?

It sucks that you're thinking about backing out of a longstanding friendship, but I totally can't blame you.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-17 06:08 am (UTC)(link)
Are the J2 tinnhatters that much crazier than the Hobbit shippers were back in the day, though?

(Anonymous) 2017-11-17 11:52 am (UTC)(link)
You mean lotr sippers? I'm a lotr RPF fan and there always has neen fic =/= reality.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-17 02:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Have the Hobbit shippers ever been so deluded that they threatened to 'out' the actors to force them to 'acknowledge their love?'

(Anonymous) 2017-11-17 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
There have been individual shippers that took a ride on that crazy train, but it was never a movement like it's been for the J2 tinhatters.

Does... does Jensen look like he could maybe be the Maytag Man's younger brother? Or is that just me? I mean, I know he's not actually related to Colin Ferguson, but there's a resemblance. Like, give it another 5 years and maybe Jensen could be playing a stackable washer and dryer too.

I don't blame you.

I stay far, far away from tinhatters of any stripe. And the RPF ones are the worst. I like RPF, but the second I get the vibe that they actually believe any of the frankly bizarre conspiracy stuff, I back away as quickly as I can.

It's a sign that your friend has some serious mental health issues, and you should not feel guilty for not wanting to deal with that, or wanting to enable it.
