I agree. It is goofy, and that is exactly why I love it.

Yep. It fits in, and it also has a little, 'this is my first time with a female body, is it okay if I wear this? what do I wear?' going on too.

I feel like I'm the only person I've seen that does find it flattering and cute though, despite the oddity of the stylings. I mean, yes it's kind of 70's/80's stylized, but it's still feminine and I honestly like the top and pants. I'm meh on the shoes, but they're practical which makes me happy more than a cute pair of heels would.

The only thing about it that I genuinely don't like is the short cuff on the pants. And maybe the waist is a little too high as well. Everything else is honestly fine.

I could live without the short pants because as a tall person I know that would drive me crazy if I were actually wearing it, lol. I actually don't mind the high waist? I mean, it had the potential to be kind of ugly, but I think she pulls it off.

9, 10, and 12 were all quite fashionable. Even 11 sort of was.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-17 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
11 and 12 weren't really fashionable, I don't think. They were more conventional than the new outfit, but their outfits were still really old-fashioned and weird in their own ways.

12 is wearing beautiful, tailored jackets. He is fashionable.

I don't know about fashionable, but Twelve wouldn't look really odd walking down a modern street. Eleven might look a bit eccentric, but not too out there.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-17 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
It does feel like a pretty massive gender double standard.

At the same time, it's not like The Coat is universally beloved by any means.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-17 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
It's not stylish.

All the previous incarnations had style, no matter how outlandish their outfits were.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-17 02:25 am (UTC)(link)
To be clear, are you including the Sixth and Seventh Doctors here, or just referring to nu!who

(Anonymous) 2017-11-17 10:55 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, at least they weren't dressed like they fell into a box of costumes and put on whatever they landed on. Six's outfit was the weirdest, but it at least fit together with its own sort of internal logic. This new costume...ehhh...

(Anonymous) 2017-11-18 05:42 am (UTC)(link)
Depends on how you define style. It would be jarring if the character suddenly started dressing like Monica Bellucci.

I love it. Even the gauchos. She looks great.

[personal profile] rhoda 2017-11-17 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
Gauchos! That's the word I was looking for.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-17 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
I haven’t ever watched Dr. Who, but prior to the reboot I know the Doctor wore some ott ridiculous costumes. That said, making the pants longer or boots higher so none of her legs showed would solve 95% of my cringing at her outfit. I’ve nothing against visible skin but that would even bug me to wear; at the very very minimum I’d wear knee-high socks. It still wouldn’t be stylish, but at least I wouldn’t keep trying to tug my socks up and the hem of my pants lower all the time.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-17 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm fine with the entire rest of the outfit except for that part. I think that part just looks dumb.

I'm torn. On one hand I think it's cute, but I also think it's kind of ugly? But ugly in a fun way? idk.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-17 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
How practical are really baggy pants that end a couple inches below the knee? Maybe it's just me, but in cold weather I wouldn't care to have a few inches of shin exposed for no particular reason. I'm fine with the top and the coat.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-17 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
Gallifreyans aren't as sensitive to cold as humans are, though.

I actually own an wear a pair of baggy pants of exactly this type (in black). Of course, where I live, "cold" is something that you see other people experience on TV.

I'm another one who likes everything about it but the high water pants, which will never look good, even in a quirky 'I don't know about fashion' way.

And, yeah, this is no worse than 6's technicolour dreamcoat, 5's cricket whites (and celery stalk!), or 4's scarf and hobo coat.

[personal profile] rhoda 2017-11-17 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm really curious to see it on screen because I feel the image doesn't really do it justice, but overall I really love what they've done with it. Looks like it allows for a range of motion, which is A+. And I love those pants.

I hated it with all my soul, but only because that was the first time I had read the book first before watching the movie and the end result didn’t even began to capture how I had imagine everything in my head. I mean I know the special effects weren’t that great then, but still.
The only good thing to come out of it was the theme song. Catchy song.
