Re: What video game moment made you stop playing the game forever?

I had a PS1 or PS2 Monster Hunter game.

I figured it was like Pokémon because you could breed, raise and train monsters to complete in tournaments to win prizes or gold. During my playthrough I managed to breed one of the wolf-things that was Green and had lightening attacks(and I oh so originally named him Lightening). He was my pride and joy. I leveled him the most, used him the most in combat, and he was pretty much unbeatable.

Turns out the game was not like Pokémon because the Monsters grow old and die, and my favourite Green Wolf grew old and died while I was playing. Like you had to pay for a funeral for it and everything and kid-me was not happy at all with this.

I turned it off without saving and have never played it since. My Green Wolf is still on that memory stick a match before his death and he will stay there forever.

Are you talking about Monster Rancher/Farmer? Those were some of my favorite games ever, and a big part of the reason I never got into Pokemon or Ni no Kuni or any other cutesy monster-trainer franchise. (How could bulbasaur possibly compare to breeding and raising your very own giant scary naga? or giant rock golem? or sexy pixie lady with giant claws?)

But oh god I was gutted when my most beloved monster died. I reloaded my save and immediately stuck her in the vault thing to save her forever.

Oh, yes that's the name!

Thank you, it's been so long I think I mixed it up with another game.

But yeah the actual game was fun but I was so sad when my favourite beast died and I didn't know about the vault so I went with the never touch it again and let him live forever in limbo option instead. :P I fucking adored those horned wolf things, they were fucking rad man.

Yeah Monster Hunter is a different game.

They were called tigers. I fucking loved those things too. There were so many awesome monsters, though. Like all the different pixies and the big crazy worm things with the giant fangs and the Galis which were just a mask and a cloak floating around and....

okay now I'm falling down the internet rabbit hole looking up all the breeds of monster.
