It definitely happens sometimes. I wouldn't feel comfortable concluding it's 100% of the time though.

I know it's not 100% because I send anon messages a lot since I don't have a tumblr but that's where most of my biggest fandoms hang out. I have seen anon hate that made me wonder, though.

Yeah, I think it happens more often than not, but there are legit anon asks (I've submitted quite a few myself).

I send almost all messages anonymously because I’m a tad socially anxious. I’ve been tempted to send myself anons a few times (mostly when I post ask memes), but it just feels like if I do it, I’ll be crossing a line I can never come back from. Which is way overdramatic, but it does the job.

That’s not to say other people don’t fake anons. I only speak for the ones I send and receive.

I'm sure it happens often enough, but I send a lot of anon questions for ask memes, or nice!anon messages when I'm too shy to compliment someone, and I get my fair share of anons.

I have contemplated sending myself anons when I reblog an ask meme and get nothing, sure, but... in my own experience, there are plenty of genuine anons.

There's multiple services that seem to be mostly used to allow people to ask anonymous questions on Twitter (curiouscat and sarahah) so I think a lot of it is probably genuine

IDK about other sites, but ever since realizing you can send yourself anon asks on tumblr I've been suspicious of a lot of posts in replies to asks.
