I love the idea of immortal or just extremely long-lived characters having absolutely terrible time-keeping skills, because to them waiting a decade is nothing.

If I was immortal, I'd probably never get anything done.

I would totally keep putting things off going 'I'll get to it later' and three hundred years would pass with me doing nothing.

I lose track of time now. Yesterday I thought it was Wednesday until about 2PM.

I agree completely and I'm also very pleased to see a Belgariad secret here <3

I loved these books when I was a child! Unfortunately, I did not find them very good when I tried going back to them as an adult. :(

Same. This was the first long fantasy series I'd ever read and I used to love it. But as an adult I can't help but notice the author's rather shitty characterization of female characters. Really disappointing. :(

I thought the same, and yet, I still go back to read them every year or so. They are just comforting and I'm okay with their faults.

All my friends in high school were really obsessed with this series for a while and got me to read them. I thought they were okay, but it sort of felt like reading about a renaissance festival rather than a fully realized fantasy world, like the details were just a painted-on facade.

I think it's because Eddings was a bit prudish, the stories were very standard Hero's Journey formats and were also basically the same story - the Elenium and Tamuli were basically the same story as the Belgariad and Mallorean.

It was good fantasy to grow up on (I found "The Diamond Throne" as an 11-yr-old and read the Belgariad in grades 9-10), but after finding Anne Bishop, it was made me aware of the prudishness, and I also hated the way the Elder Gods series was ended, even if Althalus did it first.

Yeah, the losing tracking of time thing. 'cause, you remember when you were a kid and every day lasted forever, especially in summer, and then you hit adulthood and suddenly it's all 'how is it November, where the fuck did the year go?!?'. For immortals, I'm imagining, like, 'Look, all I did was I took a little nap, and apparently I've missed six wars, my town's been renamed twice, the fashion is atrocious, and also I'm now [insert nationality here], or I will be once I figure out how to acquire an identity. Kingdoms have no goddamned staying power anymore, and this is what I get for napping in a contested province'.

A Time Lord who can't keep time...

Now I have the giggles picturing the Doctor running around like the white rabbit. "I'm late! I'm late!"

Yesss! These books were my childhood!
