Hollywood. Don't be obtuse. Hollywood has a very specific idea of what is conventionally attractive and she is not it.

nayrt +1

Yeah, no. She's not a supermodel, but she's Hollywood "cute girl next door." If this was a teen romcom, she'd be the funny best friend who gets overlooked for the prom queen and winds up with the guy after he sees that she was beautiful all along. So, big whoop. Chris Evans is dating Mary Ann instead of Ginger.

Nooooooope.

I'm sorry, but she really, really, really is not. She's wonderful and incredibly attractive and pretty in my opinion. But in Hollywood terms, she is the quirky best friend of the character you're talking about.

She'd be the Jewish quirky best friend. Cuz they would definitley make her Jewish and/or Greek.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-18 10:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Well she's already Jewish so....

(Anonymous) 2017-11-18 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but generally people who don't "look" Jewish, don't get put into Jewish roles.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-18 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't the point you are trying to make. Are you saying Jewish people are unattractive?

(Anonymous) 2017-11-19 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
DA No, I think Jewish people are as attractive or unattractive as anyone else, but it's Hollywood, so they have a fine stereotyped role for "Jewish best friend". Janeane Garofalo does it a lot, even though she isn't Jewish AFAIK. Alison Hannigan, who is Jewish, plays a different stereotype entirely, so it's very appearance based.

Every time I see Jenny I still think of Mona-Lisa Saperstein from Parks and Rec, so yeah. Jewish and quirky is putting it lightly.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-18 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
No, they don't. If you're thin, you show up with a body and people find some flaw to call you an overrated beauty, but you're allowed to show up.

(Anonymous) 2017-11-19 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Allowed to show up in Hollywood" is not the same as "being considered beautiful by Hollywood standards"
