Agreed 100%. I had a bit of a barney with the powers that be at my State Library because there are 39 steps to the mezzanine reading room and there are times when that looks like the north face of the Eiger.

I'm not sure why they can't a) put in one-person lifts at each corner of that cavernous space or b) move most of the books down to the main floor. Queueing to ask for stuff to be brought down hurts when you've got arthritis, and queue-jumping, which is what they suggested to get round that, is anathema in my culture.

Bah.

Get one of those canes that folds out to a stool? My gran has one and she sits down when she queues at banks and stuff.
