Honestly? No. And I've been in fandom for 10+ years. It's not that people aren't nasty or that things don't get ugly, it's just that you have to know when to step away from fandom and/or the internet. You can choose not to seethe about some pointless fandom argument for hours. You can choose not to get into a pointless debate with a jerk. You don't need to be "tough as nails" to do either of those things.

When people complain about fandom being too much, a lot of the time it seems like an issue they could manage better if they chose a bit more wisely how and where to spend their time, and with whom. Like the other anon - it's about drawing boundaries and choosing who you engage with makes a huge difference. Not just for fandom, but life in general!
