More like my mother ruined my birthday by making a cake SHE wanted rather than one I wanted despite me regularly asking her not to and despite my never having liked red velvet or cream cheese icing, but okay.

Do you even realize how bratty you sound right now? It's like one of those youtube videos where a 16 year old has a meltdown because daddy bought her the wrong kind of car for her birthday.

You were 15, not 5. If a subpar cake ruined your birthday, to the point that you're still this worked up about it, you should probably write a little thank you note to your mom for making sure you had such an easy life.

nayrt but I can easily imagine shitty kids coming to the party and seeing an ugly cake and telling OP that the party sucked because of the "gross, ugly cake". They might have even brought it up in conversation later. "Remember when Stacy's mom made that gross cake and nobody ate it? lololol". I can see your argument too but we weren't there and don't know everything especially about the rest of their life. Even people who have had "hard" lives can still be upset about the little things.

At 15, no one's coming to your birthday party for free cake. Unless cake was the only food served at an hours long party and it was literally inedible, you should still be able to find some joy in a party with your friends even if you have to suffer through the horrors of a homemade cake. Although if this person is as much of a spoiled brat as they sound, free cake might have been the only way to bribe people into spending time with them, I guess. In that case, sure. Day ruined.

Honestly at this point I find your attitude more annoying than the OP. Acording to you, EVERYONE acts the same way in every situation and you know everything about the OP's life ND what kind of person they are and all of their relationships based on this one anecdote. Stop projecting and chill.
