107 has made me unbelievibly sad. Why on God's green and plentiful Earth should ANYONE keep their goddamned 'fandom' at home? You're saying anyone into 'fandom' should ACTUALLY become the basement dwelling cliche so often depicted in media? What the hell. I used to carry a slashy tote bag to university and nobody gave a shit. Only snobby, elitest jerks who genuinely believe they're somehow better than 'fandom' would give a shit.

Christ almighty, you do realise, I mean, you HAVE stepped outside your internet goddamned bubble long enough to know that 90% of the WORLD has no idea what the hell "hentai" is, right?

I don't want to get into your other points, but years before I had any idea what fandom, or even anime, was, I was vaguely aware that hentai was some creepy Japanese porn with, like, squids and little girls. I don't think it's crazy to think that random people could know what it means.

Plenty of people outside of fandom know what hentai is. As a matter of fact, I've had more than a few acquaintances mention it when talking about their adventures with odd pornography. They weren't anime fans. I'm not much of one either, and I knew what hentai was years ago.

Personally, I don't have a problem with people being open about fandom in public. Whatever the hell, do what you want. Being open about the sort of sexual/pornographic material they indulge in that also involves fandom is another story, though. The average person who's sought out porn enough times has a vague idea of what hentai 'is' (underaged girls, tentacles, etcetc.)

Advertising the fact that you probably watch it is just in bad taste. Period. Wearing a bag that has 'Fullmetal Alchemist' on it is just a tad different, and frankly, if you aren't prepared for people to make a judgment call, maybe you shouldn't tote around stuff with a label that basically says 'LOOK I'M CARRYING AROUND ANIMATED JAPANESE PORN.'

I'd actually probably wear it just to get odd looks too. But I'm a small young girl, so it would definitely make for laughs if anyone did happen to know what hentai meant ;).

It's kind of silly that people assume that normal folk don't know what it is. Hentai isn't something that's specific to fandom, or even a big secret. The bag might be a joke, but even if it is, it's still not in good taste to carry around in public.
