132. I agree so much. The one thing that bothers me about fandom is how seriously some people take it. I mean, WTF it's someone else's MADE UP CHARACTERS. Get over it!

152. A lot of companies are dropping projects and it's more to do with piracy. People keep scanlating and so TokyoPop and Viz don't really have any incentive to keep releasing new stuff.

152. Huh, do people tend to pirate/scanlate light novels? They're just text, so I'm not sure if it's that high on the list for piracy. (I lovvveeee reading novels on my favorite shows, most of the time it's actually the original source for said series. )

I wouldn't know from personal experience since I'm not into the light novels, but it's happening to several of TP and Viz's projects so it stands to reason that they'd treat it all the same. I'm sure someone does it. The internet's a big place.

Yeah, but Tokyopop and Viz sometimes do such a shoddy job that the scanlations are actually BETTER =/
I promised myself to collect all of FMA, and honestly, if I didn't love the series so much I'd probably stop just because of the craptastic job. Spending all that money for lousy work irks me.

TPop runs the Japanese through Google Translator. That's it. No wonder fans aren't buying their stuff. With scanlations, you not only get larger images, but you're right - the quality of the translation is miles above TPop.

I know what you mean, but if it means that in the long run it's going to shut these companies down, is it really worth it?
