107. I guess you wouldn't like me very much, then. I actually think the bag is pretty funny and I'd probably get a chuckle out of seeing it in real life. I suppose that makes me a 'weeaboo' despite the fact that I'm not really into anime.

Honestly, though? I think you just need to relax. The chances that anyone outside of fandom knowing what 'hentai' means is slim to none.

Are you kidding me? I have about twenty college friends who had never touched a videogame or seen anime beyond, like, Pokemon when they were in fifth grade, and one day they walk up and ask me if I saw moot's latest 4chan post.

Ah, well, point taken. Though I have to say, I've only ventured into 4chan once and I have no clue who or what moot is, so... XD; That part is lost on me.

Still... I do think the bag is funny and I wouldn't necessarily jump to the conclusion that someone carrying it around must be into porn. I think it's a funny joke. I've read the responses the OP has made, though, and I think I misinterpreted what he/she was saying because of their loose use of the term 'fandom.' It's not really a big deal. I think I sounded more pissed off than I intended. XD;

No. Fandom, even by loosest standards, is the creative output (discussion, fic, whatever) of a particular media source. 4chan CELEBRATES fandom, sure, but it isn't one.

Unless you, like, get your rocks off for moot or something.

Hm, I don't know much about 4chan, but I think I disagree.

I mean, sites such as Metafandom and fandom_wank aren't always about a specific fandom, but they're nonetheless part of fandom. They discuss developments, tropes and trends of fandom. Isn't 4chan very much like that?

No no no, you misunderstand my point. I know they are a part of fandom; like 4chan those examples celebrate fandom. However, they are not a fandom unto themselves, which was I was getting at.

The difference between fandom_wank and 4chan, however, is that only PART of 4chan is dedicated to fandom. /c/ and /cm/ may be fandom-based, but boards like /b/ or /fit/ most certainly are not. However, because of the affiliation that exists solely from being on the same website, fandom terms seep into the basic vocabulary of the entire site.

e.g., my friend Rachael wouldn't dream of being involved in fandom and has no interest in anime, but because she hangs out of 4chan's non-fandom boards, so knows what hentai is.
