Er, trying to put this kindly but I suspect it doesn't. Not really. Unless you're providing a product or service or running a legit non-profit organization, donation pages come off as internet panhandling. Too many people do it because they convince themselves it's no big deal or it's for a good cause or because their desire for other peoples' money overrides their sense of propriety. Everyone's dealt with it, and even if they don't say anything, they grimace and backbutton out and you've lost a little bit of goodwill from that person.

Like MAYBE you could do this if it was a one time genuine emergency, but even then you'd need a substantial amount of followers for it to work.
