I wouldn't call it THE best Series finale ever, but it certainly lands in my top five.

Funny. I just did a re-watch myself. And yes, I bawled my eyes out over this episode. Still. All these years later.

Although nothing beats "Luck of the Fryish" in the bawling department for me.

Nothing to add but my agreement. What a cool thing to do with a 20 year rewatch. I'd not thought of that.

Now I want to start a Babylon 5 rewatch. I love this show.

It’s not that i’m sexist, I just remember a time, when I held the door open for a girl, and she began to scream and cry. “You oppressive piece of shit,” she began to say, and when I tried to calm her, she kicked my way. I used self defense, and moments later she was on the ground. The cops were called, and I’m writing this from prison now. It’s not that I hate women, just a selective few, the ones who abuse the system, and many of them do.

This person has sent this in multiple private messages to my tumblr blog. They seem to be trolling me personally.

It's not just you, they've been spamming this message across nearly all topics tonight.

Ah, okay. I only saw the ones that were replies to my various comments and the multiple tumblr messages they sent to me.

It was a great show, although I'm not a fan of the last season, aside from the finale. I feel that there was a steady build-up during the seasons, and then, in the last season, it seemed to lose its focus (along with some of its cast members).

But it was a really, really great tv show.

Sadly I only have the dvds of 2-4. I'd check the library, but I have a fine I can't pay right now. Maybe I'll see if I can watch the final somewhere online.

You have to take this into account: The fifth season almost never happened. Babylon 5's syndication distributor cancelled the show before season four ended, so the series finale was actually filmed towards the end of filming season four to wrap up the series (which is why Ivanova is in Sleeping in Light as it was filmed before Claudia Christian left the show after Season Four). Then TNT picked them up and JMS and crew had to scramble not only to have some sort of arcs and stories in place for season five, but also some creative and cast changes (Lochley replacing Ivanova, the Byron arc, etc.,), and the decision was the hold off airing Sleeping in Light and save it for Season five's series finale.

So yes, the series lost some focus and steam in season five (I still say it's thousand times better than most series' worst seasons), but there were some reasons beyond that, some of which were beyond JMS and company's control.

That's because they compressed what would have been the plot of seasons 4 and 5 (the shadow war and Earth's civil war) into just season 4 because it looked like the show was going to be canceled. So season 4 was really rushed and season 5 didn't really have enough plot for a whole season. The telepath plotline was originally supposed to take four episodes, not eleven.

Ok, now you're also making me want to rewatch B5, OP.

Oh my god I was SOBBING in front of the TV.

It was beautiful. The scene where Delenn reaches over to the empty half of the bed and grabs John's pillow makes me cry every time. But the last time I rewatched it, I got angry at John and thought he was selfish for leaving Delenn behind while he took a ship and went off to die in space. Maybe it's because I've lost a few loved ones since I first watched it, but if he absolutely had to die in space as a symbol, why did he have to leave her behind?!
