Re: fandom confessions

The problem that I have with opinions like this is that they rely on some underlying idea of how groundbreaking, exactly, its fans actually make it out to be. Which is a hard and really frustrating and pointless conversation to have, because it's so subjective. And I think usually it's both more useful and more honest to just say "YOI fans annoy me" or whatever.

I won't say that "yoi fans annoy me" because I have friends who are yoi fans, but the picture I've pieced together from browsing the fan blogs is that a lot of them have a lot less clue about what they're watching than what my friends have. There's no denying that a sizeable part of the fandom spends a lot of time patting themselves on the back for not being into BL and on trashing the "fujoshi" and praising the creators for making an anime that's about "queer male sexuality" rather than fanservice, and well. Well.

A lot of YoI fans have no fucking idea what they're talking about and don't know much about anime. Some weeks ago I saw a YoI fan saying that Free wasn't fujobait because it doesn't have any canon gay character. I facepalmed so hard that I almost hurt my face.
