I hate all stories based on Alice in Wonderland. They either do the "edgy, dark" thing or turn Wonderland into a generic fantasy world.

I agree, but I also think that Alice In Wonderland itself is pretty boring, soooooooo

Agreed. I haven't seen an interesting interpretation of Wonderland in years.

I’ve never gotten through the original Alice in Wonderland, because even as a kid I found the assumption that kids think “haha quirky nonsense is hilarious” really really annoying. I haven’t really enjoyed many other versions because I’m not a fan of generic fantasy or grimdark setting either.

I beg to differ - Miyuki-chan in Wonderland by CLAMP is great. hehe

I'm so over it. Honestly even the books weren't that great.

I love the books but have NEVER seen a movie or TV version that did them justice, and I've seen lots of them.

Yeah. I think at this point it's THE portal fantasy and the themes get done and redone so often it's hard to find a fresh approach. The most recent Tim Burton remake was just terrible... and that's even by Tim Burton standards.
