122. It's kinda sad that it makes you lonely to be the "only person" of color in fandom. Why should it matter what color you have? People are people, friends are friends, fans are fans... color shouldn't make a difference when discussing (etc.) a hobby. So does it really matter whether the rest of fandom matches your skin?

I wish people would stop thinking "black and white" and just think "people". Still, hope you find what you're looking for.

Clearly, fandom friends only discuss fandoms. They never discuss the portrayal of characters of color in the series or real life racial situations that affect them. How dare they want to find somebody they can connect with!

Actually, my point was just that it was sad that it had to be this way... that there is a need to discuss color at all and that having matching skin color is needed to connect with somebody. Shouldn't matter.

Anyway, I realise that unfortunately it is a big deal for some and, as I said, I wish the secret maker the best of luck in her search. My use of "you" and "people" were mostly generalisations and not directed at her.

um...chill? I don't think she was saying you can't look for fandom friends of your color, it's just NOT that important in the end and shouldn't be an issue. you can still find many awesome fandom friends regardles of thier skin color.

Because no one could want friends who share the same experiences and understand how real life issues affect fandom experience. Oh wait...

Yes, race can and does play a part-- whether it should or not, it does. And telling someone "race shouldn't matter" doesn't make it matter any less.

eh? I never said you SHOULDN'T want or look for friends who share the same color, religion, nationality or experiences ( god knows I wish to meet ONE arabian muslim girl like me in my fandoms..but oh well ).

it's just that many people makes a big deal out of it sometimes which makes me somehow sad, because I believe, personly, that the best thing about fandom is that it doesn't define me. I can write, draw and squee my brains out and do all the things I love to do without my nationality or religion being an issue (unless I want to make it one, but that's a different).
