I don't go around saying that... that's why it's a secret. Also, observe how I'm not hating on the show in the secret, I'm hating on the obsessive, rabid fans who can't fathom that someone may not like the show OMG THE HORROR.

By the way, normally I don't talk about TTGL and when asked, I just say "I watched the first episode and it's not my cup of tea" and leave it at that. I have been treated condescendingly for this opinion, and I've had to fight off people who tried to get me to watch it even though I made it obvious that I didn't care for it. But the post was inspired by TTGL fans on various forums and blogs, and specifically one fan who wrote a review for Rahxephon which could be summed up by "reasons why TTGL is superior to Rahxephon and every other mecha anime for that matter." (I'd gladly give you the link but it's a private forum and the language wasn't even English.)

I think going off on somebody for not liking the same shows you do is silly, yes. But I also don't think that asserting an opinion of a show that you've only watched one episode of is a good way to get people to respect that opinion, ya know? There are some shows that I didn't like on the first episode and wouldn't have watched all of otherwise if not for the opinions of other fans. Some of those turned out to become my favourite shows of all time (TTGL included). I'd bet that the "attacks" you're getting from other fans aren't because you don't like TTGL, but because you say you don't like it after barely even giving it a chance.

I'm sorry but I don't have time to watch a show I'm not interested in, in hopes that it may get better. (I have to deal with enough uninteresting/awful shows for work.) Besides, I've been watching anime for a long enough time to be able to tell if a show is something I'm interested in or not by the first episode (there's been exactly one exception so far: Berserk, that has one of the most misleading first episodes I've ever seen. Which doesn't seem to be the case with TTGL.) I don't like Gainax in general, nothing I saw on the official site appealed to me, I only watched the episode because of the hype. While it was airing I sometimes saw TTGL episode reviews in blogs and nothing that I read interested me. That's quite enough for me.

Again, my problem is not with the "give it another chance" people (as long as they accept that no, I won't). It's just that fans expect everyone to love this show and think it's the Second Coming, and can't quite grasp the fact that not everyone thinks so. I wouldn't mind if they only took every opportunity to praise the show (hell, that's part of being a fan), but this "it's superior to everything on the face of the earth and if you don't think so you're a worthless idiot" attitude really rubs me the wrong way.

I understand a lot better now, however not a lot of that came off in your secret, unfortunately. But I can still see how it could rub some people the wrong way if you claim to outright dislike a show you've barely even seen, especially for the people who may have also disliked the first episode, also read reviews that made it seem kinda 'meh', but then wound up loving it totally.

But I'm totally feeling on you for the pushy fans. Haven't noticed it much with the TTGL fandom, personally, but with a couple others, definitely.
