101. Heh. ZORK. I used to play that on an ancient computer my brother-in-law gave me, but I never got very far in it. Showing your age or just your gaming savvy?

105. I've not seen TTGL, but reading a bit about it makes me interested. Still, I understand what you mean about overenthusiastic fans. "House," "NGE" (though I actually do like NGE... just not my favorite anime). For what it's worth, I've been a *complete* "Trigun" fanatic for the better part of a decade, yet I understand that not everybody likes it - it just grabbed me in a particular way -- is not going to do that to everyone. If someone's talking with me and tells me to "back off," I will.

As it is, I'm reluctant to get into "The Meloncholy and Haruhi Suzimaya" (sp?), and I'll probably *never* get into "Bleach" because of the majority fanbases... they just scare me. Also, though I've seen the movies, I'm slightly afraid to start reading "Harry Potter," too... I really understand the "extremely popular=scary" sentiment. Maybe I'm missing out on really great things, but overly-hyper (or overly wanky) fans can do that to some people, *especially* if they act snobby about their "baby." To treat me like I'm a lesser human being or like I'm stupid for not liking something is the easiest way to PREVENT me from even giving it a chance, and people who condescend to me are generarlly on my piss-list forever.

118. I'm just shy of 29. I wish it were a valid career choice. I think it would be my dream job... working with "animals," traveling the world, not answering to a boss...

125. Life just sucks sometimes. Without going into details, I'm in sort of a similar situation with not being able to move forward due to money issues... The world is indifferent to individual dreams and hopes, I fully believe that "making it" is probably more a matter of luck than of talent or skill, however...

I have had fictional characters who've helped me to a degree, but, in the end, you have to internalize it. You have to just say "Screw it" when it comes to the world and believe that *you* have worth. Even if the world is indifferent, someone loves you. Even if the world is hard, you are alive and are still trying. I believe that we all affect the world in a variety of ways, many of which we cannot see - that there *is* a reason. If, in the end, you need to get help from someone -- (psychatric or otherwise, for depression and such), don't be ashamed of it.

126. Not into Dr. Who... and if I wanted to, I could learn all about Classic Who from my walking-encyclopedia fiance'. I say be careful with Wikipedia, though. They aren't always accurate (I don't trust them with fandom stuff, not after some crap happened with people editing the wiki with mis-information in my home fandom). If someone tells you different, please, PLEASE don't say that they're wrong because "Wikipedia said so!" -- I've had someone pull that with me on subjects that I've *LIVED,* thinking they were some kind of holier-than-thou expert on it because they read something on Wiki... ARRRRGH! If people give me Wiki articles to try to "correct" me, (or anyone else) my respect for them immediately goes down, honestly -- just because of the one person.

136. I feel the same way you do. There are a lot of characters I like, even ones I think are "pretty" or "sexy" that I would never, ever shag. If I think a character design is good, or that they have an interesting personality, I don't equate that with "I'd hit it." I love Vash the Stampede, but it's hero-worship... I'd rather "be like him" or "be his friend." I love all the Haibane of Haibane Renmei because they have beautiful personalities - I want to hug them all, not "hit" them all. Then again, I'm not "most of fandom," either -- I'm sort of a freakish aesexual -- so maybe feeling this way just isn't common or even "normal" in fandom.

143. I'm not sure it would catch on, but the "Cult of Chu" could be kind of funny. You can always make a fansite.

I tend to become extremely curious about things that people talk about a lot, and that was the only reason I watched "The melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi" (I really liked it, which I didn't expect; it wasn't what I thought it would be). Generally I tend to have low expectations of hyped stuff (can anything really be that good?), but I still want to see it. Sometimes I get nice surprises that way, heh.
