No, 'Christmas' is the bastardized version of pagan yule celebrations, with a 'birth' tacked on that didn't actually happen in December, for a 'god' that not everyone believes in. There are dozens of other holidays going on at this EXACT SAME TIME.

Shocking, i know.

First, that's a massive simplification at best.

Second, even if Christmas is a Christianization of a pre-existing pagan tradition, that doens't mean that it's literally *the same as* those pagan holidays. It's kind of its own distinct thing, you know

It's really not. Yule was taken over by the Xians so they could a) allow the masses to celebrate on the day they were familiar with, but replacing *why*, and b)to gain control over and then supplant the old rites. It's not like this isn't common knowledge.

And it's not it's 'own distinct thing' - the miracle birth of a baby that's actually a divine whatever is not unique at all.

I mean, Dionysus, good gods.

I...am unfamiliar with this quote.

This, so much this, thank you.

It's just so weird to me that there are still people out there who believe Christmas - as it's currently celebrated - is all about Christianity and Jesus. I and almost all my friends and family are atheist, or at the very least agnostic, and we all still celebrate Christmas.

Yes! So very strange. And to be so *possessive* of it, as if no one else has a right to the sentiments, the celebrations, the day itself.

Not to mention Nordic countries calls it variations of "Yule".

Yup.
