109: It would be pretty stellar to have a chance at a second chance in the form of a game, but I gotta wonder how the second chance deal works. You can get brought back to life and like... no one remembers you died, or it's a MIRACLE when you wake up and hope you haven't been buried yet? Hmm.

151: Well, thinking Light is totally right in every way is creepy, but agreeing that he at least started with the right idea isn't too far off. Crime WAS down while Kira was around, after all. If Light was less of a crazy sociopath with his ideals, he'd almost be a legitimate hero. I can kind of understand being so angry at injustice in the world that you'd wish there was someone like Light around sometimes (who knows, even you could witness something that might make you change your mind,) but he did too many things that were genuinely evil and off-track. DN is complex, and that's what makes the characters so awesome.

I do believe he had the right idea in the beginning. But to think that he took his power and ran away with it, developing a very frightening personality scares me. I've met people who think that Light's world would be great. Yeah, it'd be great for the people who hole themselves up in their houses all day because they don't actually do anything to contribute to society. It got to the point in DN where if you didn't like pickled turnips you'd get killed off. Bit of an exaggeration, but you understand the point.

Unless I'm forgetting something big (very possible) I don't actually recall Light killing off really minor criminals. The only people he killed who didn't deserve it were the ones who were actively trying to stop him or otherwise compromise his identity. That, and his willingness to off his family and other people who loved him for the cause is what made him a monster and unfit to judge others' crimes (and makes for the obvious irony of the story)

Aside of that, we live in a world now where people are SUPPOSED to fear retribution for criminal actions. Our current system of law SHOULD have that same effect. But sit and watch the news for one hour and it's pretty obvious that it doesn't. People know they can get away with doing awful things, so they do it. Imagine if no one figured out the criteria for Kira's method of killing, and they just believed it to be some kind of divine karma or punishment? Wouldn't real fear be a more effective system? Though I could see paranoia taking it too far; fear might be a little too effective.

Generally the only way I think anyone could ACTUALLY think Lightopia would be a great place to live is if they were citizens in the DN universe who didn't have insight into Kira as a person. Otherwise, they're just trying to be controversial or flat-out didn't pay attention to the story.

My theory at the moment is that either they wake up from a coma (would work easily for everyone's deaths except Neku's) or you jump back to your moment of death and something happens to change it.

ENDGAME SPOILERS>>>>>>>>

That's my personal working theory as to why they don't meet up for a week. Everyone has to come back, sort out what happened to them, remember what they actually went through, etc. etc. Then they text each other and pick a time to meet up.

Yeah, I could picture them waking up from a coma... haha, that would mean that you can only participate in the Reaper's Game if you're not like, obliterated or something. Er, wait though, do their bodies transcend into the UG with them I wonder? IIRC, [SERIOUSLY END GAME SPOILERS PAST HERE] Josh tossed the player pin onto Neku's body, didn't he? hmm. I gotta find the rest of the secret reports! Though I'm not really confident that they'll answer all these type of questions. :(

Jumping back to your moment of death would be weird considering how much time passes, and what you do to help people in the RG. ... I mean, it's possible, but... man, did it drive you crazy that Neku never mentions his family even once after he gets his memories back? That drove me nuts.

The secret reports, while awesome and very informative, answer exactly nothing about this sort of thing. :( As far as the body thing goes, I think most people's bodies probably stay in the RG. Neku's a special case, given that he's the selected proxy and all. Or maybe your soul/spirit/whatever goes into the UG leaves your body after you officially die, and Joshua tossed the pin onto Neku before he'd completely died, so when his soul left, it took the Player Pin with it. Hmmm...

I find it really interesting that Neku never mentioned his family, especially given that Beat spilled his guts about that sort of stuff. I think there are a lot of parallels between Neku and Joshua, and that's one of them - the sense of being alone in the world. SPOILERS FOR ANOTHER DAY >>>>> Neku may or may not, depending on whether or not you think the Another Day Pork City monologues apply to the main world as well, have had one good friend in the past, heads into the game with no friends, and doesn't show any familial attachments. Poor kid. Hey, at least he comes out the other side with three good friends and one very interesting ~~friend~~ ~~stalker~~ ~~boyfriend~~ ... Joshua.

lol aaaaaaaaaahh I can't read the second half of your comment, I'm in the middle of Another Day at this moment.

Yeah, I agree about their parallels. ...It's a LITTLE frustrating, even Josh mentioned "his parents" which is pretty, uh, weird. And kind of unnecessary. But it's like... they're all only 15 years old, even if you're a self-styled outcast like Neku, it seems like you'd be at least thinking about SOMEONE you left behind. I loved the parts with Shiki and Eri, because it gives some insight into how it all "works" and Beat talking about his folks and home life brought his character into the third dimension. The closest Neku comes to something outside of the UG is talking about how much he loves CAT. :'(

ANYWAY, maybe being "erased" is your soul actually leaving, like, for real-real. And just being in the UG would be the sort of coma-type deal.

Ah! Well, if it helps at all, it's a spoiler for something from Pork City, so once you've done that part, it's safe to read. And if I take out that little part, my comment is:

I agree on the erasure/soul thing - that idea makes a lot of sense to me. Oh, and enjoy Another Day! That extra little bit really rounded out the game for me. Much fun.

Aha! I haven't done Pork City yet, I'm in the middle of the SUPER INTENSE TIN PIN STORYLINE. (When Joshua "sees a hole, he knows how to fill it"?! lmao whattttt)
