I heard Jesse was originally supposed to die at the end of season 1. So glad they didn't go that route. The series would've sucked without him. Walter just wouldn't be even a tenth as interesting a character without his dynamic with Jesse.

Agreed, but I feel the same about Jesse. Their dynamic made the show.

Yeah, true. They were such a great Odd Couple. Not only did that create really entertaining banter, the more serious stuff - with Walt emotionally manipulating Jesse, and this underlying father-son element - was really the most interesting part of the series for me. I never thought the plot and writing alone were all that clever, and I don't think it would've stood on its own for me without them. I guess that's why I couldn't get into Better Call Saul.

Yeah, Better Call Saul has a lot of issues, though this latest season that just came out ended up being pretty good. The series would be a lot more successful if they played to the characters strengths instead of watering Saul down so much. I was hoping for an episodic show where Saul uses clever, underhanded means to win a different case each week. Instead we get a wishy-washy character stuck in a melodrama with a bunch of uninteresting characters who make utterly stupid decisions because the writers couldn't think of any other way to generate drama.
