Wait wait, you honestly think people like Jesse because the RELATE to him? Shocking news here, most Breaking Bad fans have never done meth and wouldn't recognize meth if someone smacked them over the face with it. Most people who like Jesse are probably Skylers in real life.

And no one who thinks Jesse is a good character would ever claim he made good decisions. He was definitely in charge of fucking up his own life. That doesn't mean he is undeserving of any sympathy. And for the most part, even though he constantly goes through shit, the only times he's really emo about it are when serious, serious shit goes down. For the most part, he bounces back up.
