I don't recall Lucas ever treating her badly.

Me neither.

I liked Lucas/Max slightly better than Mike/Eleven, but all the baby romance in Stranger Things is just too much. It was the farthest thing from my mind at that age, so maybe I'm projecting, but damn.

Yeah I wish they'd held the romance-y stuff off a little.

(Though all I really want from S3 is Jane and Max becoming friends.)

It made me so mad that Jane was mean to Max and they didn't follow up on it.

I pretty much agree. I can't say it was the farthest thing from my mind buy they just don't seem like the type of kids who get into that stuff really early. (Also I'm an older adult so as the comment below says it might be kind of weird if I got deeply into shipping any of it.)

What's bugging me is that I want Max to be noticed more. I saw shirts on TeeFury with all the kids on them but no Max. (I'm not sure about any official merchandise.) She really became part of the group so I respect that.

I agree with this as well, and Eleven was raised in captive so it's understandable that she latches on to the person who was kind to her first, i.e Mike, but I hope as she socialises more it'd develop more into deep friendship with the other kids (and Max, I want her to be nicer to Max too) -- romance at that age was the farthest thing for me too.

I really can't get worked up about kid ships except that it kind of creeps me out when adults hardcore ship tweens.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-13 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Man, you woulda hated HP fandom a decade ago.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-13 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
Naw, I was a teen so shipping other teens made sense to me. Shipping teens with Snape is and ever was creepy though.

Same. I don't get judgey online because I don't know that all the shippers aren't closer in age to the characters, but I definitely am not taking sides with kid ships.

I really liked her and I found Max/Lucas cute simply because he actually tried to get to know her and include her in the group. I mean I'm still not super-invested because kid-romances only ever illicit an 'eh that's kinda sweet' response in me anyway, but I didn't hate it.

Mostly I just wanted her and Eleven to be friends and I'm still annoyed that they just dropped that thread. Pls to be doing that in s3 thnx.

For serious about the 11 and Max thing.

The series already has great guy friendships. A girls friendship would have really been nice.

Yeah it's definitely needed tbh, especially to kill the goddamn 'girls are always jealous of each other' bullshit that crops up way too much in fiction.

Like they did a great job with the boys dynamic, can we have the same for the girls please? (And honestly I loved what we got of Kali+Eleven but I don't want Max and Eleven to be brushed aside as potential friends).

I kind of got it with Eleven, in that she's never had friends before and she's possessive of Mike and of her place in the group. But. I hope that the jealousy thing isn't going to *be* a thing now that she's been reassured that her place is secure.

I actually want her to get together with one or the other (doesn't matter which, you'll see why) and for most of the next season show them having a fine, if strained relationship that slowly devolves into her realizing that she's just doing what's expected of her and him realizing that he had a way more idealized vision of girls than what is reality. They split up, Max wiser and armed with the knowledge that she doesn't have to be someone's prize at the end of a courtship, and the boy (either one works tbh) realizing that he can't just stick friendship and kindness coins into girls until 'girlfriend' status pops out.

I need this because there are a ton of girls and boys who still don't get either of these concepts.

I bought them hooking up about as much as I bought Nancy and Jonathan hooking up, which is to say: not at all. The writers suck at writing romance. They really should just stop.

Tho at least no weird old guy was hanging out encouraging Max and Lucas to get it in on this sofa bed. Gosh I'm still not over my wtf reaction to that.

I have to say I don't agree. While 'romance' of pretty much any kind that's in movies/on tv is dreadfully boring to me (especially m/f romance), young teens suddenly realizing the opposite (or same, but in this case....) sex is...*different* in an interesting way is pretty much *life*.

And omfg, they didn't *stalk* her. They watched her in public places, like their *school*, because they were amazed that a girl not only played video games but *beat them*. That was a brand new thought in their world. They were curious. Not like they stole her underwear or looked through her bedroom window, jeez.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-13 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
If someone rushed to read something I'd just wadded up and put in the trash, I'd feel pretty stalked.

I wonder if this is same person annoyed by the Nancy/Steve/Jonathan plotline because both Jonathan and Nancy were equally shitty boyfriend material.

Like if you think Lucas is an especially shitty friend, not worthy of the time of a 12 year old in 1985, I don't know what to tell you. He's a better person that I was at that age.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-13 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
I've got nothing to add to this except that I would actually be interested in the Nancy/Steve/Jonathan plotline of Nancy and Jonathan were both trying to get with Steve.

Oh god, agreed. Honestly, imo a lot of people on the comm are weirdly judgey and nitpicky about this show. It's like, "Oh, this young person did a less than 100% admirable thing; I dislike them now." Like, are people just super hung up on ever single thing that ever hurt their feelings in school or something? I can honestly say that the only non-adult character I don't find likeable, sympathetic, and overall admirable is Billy. Well, and Steve's asshole friends from S1.
