Don't feel weird, OP. I used to ship a Top Gear pairing. The trouble is finding time to write, enough interest, and good ways to keep it all secret enough. Don't forget Caitlin Moran and assholes in general are out there looking to find the slightly odd and RP ships and point and laugh, show them to the celebs in question, etc. It makes open fandoming pretty complicated. Add in the busy-ness of being a grownup, and the fact that the fandoms are just generally smaller... (I know, I know, young people are busy too: but I had a lot more time to get obsessed with things when I was younger.)

And mentioning Top Gear brings up another problem, which is that often RPF ships involve people who turn out to be complete massive fucking dickheads.

Fellow formerly active British fandomer now in her 30s (with a house, partner and 2 kids) fistbump! F!s is pretty much my only connect with fandom in general these days as I simply don't have time for all the media in my life any more. I haven't seen a single mcu movie since Ultron, even though I wanted to. Hubs and i only see each other after work, so we watch things we both like... Such as Hairy Bikers and Masterchef XD I love Si and Dave and how genuinely sweet they are. I'm waiting for Marcus Wareing / Monica Galetti fic though...
