Well, I mean...RDJ is the oldest main cast member and he has a history of heavy drug/alcohol abuse so that is unlikely.

I have drug abusers in my family both currently and past users. I've seen first hand the shit that happens to them physically. I mean, look at Carrie Fisher. She had been clean for years but doing stuff like that just weakens a body.

She died from complications with sleep apnea, which has nothing to do with drug use. Sleep apnea is a lot more dangerous than people think.

That's a bit of a terrible thing to say? This is a real person, and he didn't even get clean in some celebrity rehab resort, it was in prison, and he's talked about staying healthy and taking care of what he puts in his body? He has the resources, so that puts his chances above people that don't, but it still takes a lot of discipline and strength... I don't care about MCU/DCU in general but RDJ is a legitimately inspirational person.

I don't think she meant that she hoped he died. I think what she meant was that with his past and the high chances of unforseen effects of the drugs took causing health problems down the road (even if he never touches alcohol or another addictive drug again in his life), that he may not live forever as the anon above said they wished he would.

I actually suspect Thor will be one of the first original Avengers to be killed off. He's popular enough that it would get an emotional reaction from the audience (more than Natasha or Clint, or the side characters like Sam and Wanda), but he's not as popular as Steve or Tony. I suspect there's a good number of casual moviegoers who simply will not pay to see an Avengers movie without Iron Man.

Plus, wasn't Hemsworth complaining that he was sick of playing Thor before production started on Ragnarok? It's possible he had more fun there, but it's also possible he's ready to move onto other projects.

(I hope I'm wrong about all this, though. Thor is my favorite. :( )

Right? It was pretty clear to me that kaijinscendre's comment referred to the character dying, not the actor. Referencing RDJ's age and past drug history seemed to me to be saying that it made it more likely that he won't want to (or won't be able to) play Tony Stark forever, not that kaijinscendre hoped RDJ would die as well.

Yeah, I don't hope he dies. For one thing, I am still hoping for a third Sherlock movie. Jude Law and RDJ will be on the Marvel sets together, JUST FILM IT ON WEEKENDS!

Anon said they hope he is around forver so I made a flippant joke pointing out that A) He won't B) His age/history means he will likely be the Avenger they choose for a heroic sacrifice. Because one will be chosen.

I literally did not think anyone would think I thought "I hope RDJ dies so I don't have to see Tony Stark ever again." If someone told me, "Oh, the Tony Stark role literally keeps RDJ alive because of Disney magic," I'd want him in every movie ever.
