Is it bad that I really want to eat the background candies?

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 10:36 pm (UTC)(link)
You want to eat a bag of dicks?

Are they salted?

(Anonymous) 2017-12-17 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
I can picture you now, ordering a package of them sent anonymously to yourself, the over the top "oh what hate mail I've recieved oh well I guess I'd better get rid of the evidence" all while eating them quickly, chomping down the dick candies

(Anonymous) 2017-12-17 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Lol, my desire to eat the dick candies was literally all I could focus on while reading the secret.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-17 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, right? It made me think that it's been way too long since I had gummy worms.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-16 10:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Same, anon. It's just so goddamned exhausting.

I didn't realise it until just now but this is my problem with a lot of shows. I was expalaining to a friend tonight that Animal Kingdom drains me and I couldn't get back into it when the second season came out. I think it's because at least in season one there was still a chance there would be someone to root for but at the start of season two we know there isn't. I want to find shows with characters I like but haven't had any luck lately.

Yeah, I don't need the characters to all be pure snowflakes or whatever, but I need them to at least try. For example, Eleanor on The Good Place is definitely a bag of dicks but that's her starting point, not the end point.

Or Pete Campbell from Mad Men - starts as a dick, tries to become less of a dick, backslides dickishly, climbs back up to undickish. Ends up flawed, interesting, trying to do better. I'm here for it.

I can absolutely enjoy dick characters but I also need some genuinely good guys as well to balance it all out. Everyone in a show being assholes only works for me for so long before I peace out and get bored.

I just need some variation man.

I have so much less tolerance for them lately as well! You're not alone...

(Anonymous) 2017-12-17 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
What shows are these?

(Anonymous) 2017-12-17 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
I'm fine if they start out dicks and then quickly get karma smacks and become better.

But I hated Inside Out because 90% of the movie was Joy being a total and complete dick and only in the last few minutes does she realize other emotions have a purpose too and maybe she shouldn't be such a huge dick.

I love shows with dick characters IF there are consequences for their dickery and lessons to be learned from it. Little/no consequences and that's where I agree with your point about romanticizing dickish behavior. Being knocked down a million pegs is essential, or it does get tiresome and boring.

(Anonymous) 2017-12-17 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, the only way I can deal with a dickish character at all is if the narrative makes it pretty clear from the get-go that this is Not Okay and that there will be consequences to the dickery.
