I find him arrogant, and yet I like watching his shows. He is very good at what he does.

I remember his feud with another chef when he was on Iron Chef ages ago. At the end of the match, he jumped on top of his cutting board trying to show off, which is gross and disrespectful. People eat food off cutting boards and you're just gonna get your nasty shoes on them? I always thought he was an asshole after that.

It is supposed to be a dramatic show and it was the end of the show. They weren't going to prepare anything on it right afterward. As a matter of fact, I'm pretty sure it got replaced before the next show.

'Um' is a condescending and passive-aggressive word to label a comment with as if the person is stupid, so I will re-use it. It's the disrespect not the dirt. If that is not immediately obvious to some people, not sure what I can say.

'Um' is an interjection I use in conversation to bring up a point I think could be used for clarification or when I want to get someone's attention. I use it as a label for comments when I want to do this and also so I can keep track of my anon comments. The person I was replying to was concerned about disrespect, which they mentioned, but their comment also separately mentioned how gross it was and how people eat off cutting boards and him having nasty shoes - implying to me that it was, at least a little, about the subsequent use. I may have read it wrong, but I didn't think they were stupid, I just thought if they were concerned about germs or dirt in someone's food, they probably didn't need to be. I also think it likely that the gesture was played up for drama on the show.

You being an asshole is immediately obvious to most people. The "disrespect" inherent in using the word 'um' or jumping on a prop in a TV studio is not immediately obvious to most people, because those are rituals you've made up in your head to compensate for the fact that you're unpleasant and people dislike interacting with you.

I have no idea if that's a typical photo of whoever that is, but his hair doesn't look red. Not even a bit.
