How little does a celebrity have to do before you write them off completely?

What is your limit? Murder? Sexual Harassment? Jaywalking?

Murder for sure. Rape, assault too unless there's a substance addiction goong on. Then I might be inclined to cut a very little slack for first incidences and forgive if they get clean and become better people.

If they make something interesting, I'll still like it even if they kill puppies on the regular. If they stop making things that appeal to me, i'll stop being interested. I don't really care about what celebrities do just what they make.

I just saw a lovely comment that i'll paraphrase;

"Cheat on your SO or get arrested for crack? That's on you. When you do things that are racist, violent, or assaulting to other people, that's when it stops."

("But isn't cheating on someone hurtful to another person to?" yeah but so many SOs let it pass,, that's not my fault or problem)

I agree with all of this.

It depends on how long ago it happened and how they react to it coming to the public eye. Like, if they sincerely apologise and seem to actively be trying to do better then cool. But if they don't apologise and act like a jerk, even if it's something minor from a while ago I usually go off them.

Murder/rape/abuse would be my limits.

Drug abuse and affairs, those aren't good things, obviously, but I know people make mistakes, too, so I'm not going to dump my interest in a celebrity's work over that stuff. Especially since that's stuff you can overcome and move past. With drug abuse, I just find it more sad than anything else, and hope the person gets better simply for their own sake, let alone anyone else's. And with an affair, well, I figure that's for the celebrity, their significant other, and the person they cheated with to worry about and sort out. It's really not my business in the first place.

If a famous person is long dead by the time I discover their work, it can be a little easier to move past a lot of stuff simply because, well, they're obviously not causing any problems anymore ;p. I think in that case it'd just depend on how easy it'd be for me to enjoy that work without the stuff they did in their lives lurking in the back of my mind.

Things like being convicted of rape/murder/pedophilia will put me off for life.

Offensive comments are more of a time+marked effort to change as to whether I'll write them off. Also how long ago it was said and how sincere any apology was.

Donating money to or supporting bigoted organizations will also put me off.

I don't get that invested in celebs. If they do something illegal and gross, I don't mind writing them off as assholes. But I also don't go digging for dirt, and in some cases (mental illness, child actors going a bit wild, etc.) I don't hold acting out against them.
