I mean...fanfic is all about sharing ideas and doing takeoffs on other people's work. It's okay to look at another story and go "that's not the way I would have done it, let me show you my version". There are ways to do that and still not only come off as nice but actually friendly toward other authors. Maybe they'll even like your idea too, not everyone who writes fic is angrily and jealously obsessed with the serious business that is their own vision of how characters and scenarios should be written.

Sometimes I wish there was an easier way to tell other authors I might welcome respectful takeoffs on my ideas.


But you don't have to turn it into some sort of silent, weird,resentful, passive aggressive competition the other writers don't know they're in with you.
