No jabs at all. And they're never uncommon ideas. It's always something like I encounter one Coffeeshop AU that gets everything 'wrong' and write my own Coffeeshop AU to add to the other hundreds out there in fandom.

An example would be, fandom slightly changed. I clicked on a Loki Gets Deaged fic, and deaged Avengers fics are everywhere. I was expecting Thor&Loki fluff, got untagged Thor/Jane and all about how having a child helps their relationship. So I wrote a fluffy fic where Thor gets deaged and Loki takes care of him. I'm pretty sure it would be next to impossible to point at the Jane/Thor fic and even suspect it was what inspired me to spitefully write the Thor&Loki fluff I actually wanted, especially when the Thor/Jane was an older fic.

Yup that sounds super fair, actually. I've added a secondary Clex pairing in my KonTim once because I read a fic with Bruce/Clark in it and I wanted to see if I can give a Clex's take on the premise, so that sounds similar to what you did.

And yeah the premise are always not that specific, when it is a very specific plot point I'd usually tell the author point blank - I've never seen this type of soulbonding system before, can I use this for my OTP? - and I rarely get a no, honestly.
